Amy and Leith; a simple love story that turned into something extraordinary. Among their nearest and dearest they said I do in a modern setting with a vintage flair. Photographed beautifully by Amy Kate Photography with a custom Trish Peng gown this is a love story not to miss!
How did you meet?
There are two sides to this story. I think we first met at a Drift racing event, I was with a friend who dated a drifter. Leith thinks we met at his house! So who knows.
What is your engagement story?
Leith organised a night away for my first mothers day from our then 9 month old baby boy. We stayed at a lovely hotel in the viaduct, went for a romantic dinner, came back to our hotel and dove into some champagne, as he went to pop the champagne he got down on one knee, the rest is history…
What does love mean to you?
Love makes you stronger, it makes you feel safe and warm. It is loving someone else unconditionally. It’s trusting that person completely and showing a whole lot of affection. Love is all you need.
What does marriage mean to you?
It means you have chosen to be a part of a team. You make future life choices together. It’s confiding in one and other. It means family. You can’t have a marriage without love, honesty and trust. Those 3 things are completely vital.
What advice do you give to future brides planning on a budget?
I feel I am not the best person to give budget advice on as we may, or may not have gone fairly over ours, however looking back on our wedding now I can see where we could have saved a lot. Basically choose what you want to spend the most of your money on. What really matters to you? Everything else will all come together. I wish I believed that advice when planning ours!
Where was your wedding location?
Our ceremony was at the historic St Matthews Church in Auckland City. My parents and my Mum's parents and so on were married there, so it meant a lot for Leith and I to be married there. Our reception was at the Rooftop terrace of The Rydges Hotel. The view and atmosphere of that venue was unreal!
Who did your photography?
The amazing Amy Kate Photography. She is so talented and captured our day so perfectly. The easiest and bubbliest of girls to communicate with and make you feel 100% comfortable, we loved having her. What was the theme/style you aimed for?
This is a hard question to answer. During my wedding planning I really didn’t have a theme in mind. It was more about keeping things simple yet beautiful to look at. I had colours I loved and knew I wanted to incorporate while trying to keep it fairly traditional yet modernized in some areas.
Where was the brides dress/shoes/accessories from?
My dress was custom made Trish Peng. Shoes were Badgley Mishka and my Earings were Swarovski.
Where was the grooms suit from?Where was the bridesmaids and groomsmen attire from?
I gave my bridesmaids are budget, a dress length and colour scheme; then found their own dresses. My maid of honour had hers made by Charmaine Jan Bridal & Ball creations, the other three girls had Maurie and Eve, Sheike and Fame and Partners.
Where were your invitations from?
The lovely Sharnee from Wedding Art She also did all our other stationary including welcome signs, seating charts, personalised menu’s and wedding programs.
What preparation did you do before the big day?
I attended necessary beauty appointments, stuck to a healthy eating plan and exercised daily. I also upped my water intake which did absolute wonders for my skin. I cannot recommend something as simple as “water” enough! What is a memorable moment from your special day?
When arriving at the church I remember looking out the window at my son who was smiling and laughing at all the bubbles being blown, my dad said to me “Take it all in, Birdie.” It brought tears to my eyes and I felt so overwhelmingly happy and content. It sounds crazy but it felt I was in slow mo for a second and everything just felt right. It still brings me to tears today. (Happy tears, of course!)
Tell me about your honeymoon destination and why you chose it?
We are heading to Hawaii and Vegas. Leith and I have been to Vegas twice before and it’s one of those places you have to return to when you get the chance. We are both fairly social people so a place like Vegas just works for us. We also have a relaxed side so we are looking forward to unwinding in Hawaii.
What were your wedding songs?
BM’s walked down to Ellie goulding- falling for you. I walked down to Beyonce – At last. First dance song was Sam smith – Latch, the acoustic version.
Did you give favours to your guests?
Yes we gave our guests personalised candles and bottle openers from Personalised Favours.
